About Us
The Bag the Bags Coalition is a group of citizens and organizations dedicated to improving our community, our quality of life, and our environment. We believe in citizen activism that unites disparate people in a common cause to make life better.
We have come together in this campaign to ban the use of plastic bags in Austin. We know that plastic bags hurt our environment and our lives in many ways. While plastic bags are convenient, they are made from oil, a non-renewable resource, they contribute to global warming, they degrade our environment, and they are the most visible sign of pollution in our creeks, lakes, and parks.
We believe in bringing people together, and we hope this campaign will spark a conversation in our community about the downsides of plastic bags. We want to do more than just shift consumer use from plastic bags to paper bags or compostable bags. We want to change our habits so that taking reusable bags to the grocery store is second nature.
